About UsCavalier Corporation was formed and listed on the New Zealand Stock Exchange in 1984. Today, the Group’s principal activities comprise two broadloom carpet businesses, a carpet tile business, a commission wool scouring operation and a wool procurement business.
The two broadloom carpet businesses are wholly-owned Cavalier Bremworth and 70%-owned Norman Ellison Carpets.
Cavalier Bremworth operates two woollen yarn spinning plants and a carpet manufacturing plant - all New Zealand-based - and has major distribution centres in Auckland and Sydney and sales offices throughout New Zealand and Australia. It has agents or distributors in the USA, Canada, the UK, the Middle East and throughout Asia. The business markets carpet under the Bremworth, Cavalier Bremworth, Knightsbridge, Kimberley and Tramore brands.
Norman Ellison Carpets is a single-site operation with its yarn spinning and carpet manufacturing based in Auckland. It is also an importer and distributor of nylon carpets. It markets and distributes carpet under the Norman Ellison and the Georgia Collection brands from two distribution centres - one based in Auckland and the other in Brisbane - and it is well represented on both sides of the Tasman.
Sydney-based Ontera Modular Carpets, of which the Group has a 91.25% interest, is one of Australasia’s leading manufacturers and marketers of carpet tiles and has sales operations in both New Zealand and Australia.
Cavalier Woolscourers (operating as Hawkes Bay Woolscourers and Canterbury Woolscourers), of which the group has a 50% interest, is the Group’s commission wool scouring business that provides commission wool scouring services for the wool exporting industry. Cavalier Woolscourers also scours all of the Group’s carpet wool requirements. Like Cavalier Woolscourers, Elco Direct, the wool procurement business, is a service provider to both the wool industry and the Group’s carpet businesses.
Cavalier has approximately 5,500 shareholders and approximately 1,000 employees throughout New Zealand and Australia.
In the year to June 2009, Cavalier achieved an operating surplus after tax of $14.9 million on operating revenue of $247 million.
